What is the most common cause? macrodystrophia lipomatosa. Not transferred genetically from parents to child
When and why is it treated? Treated for comestic and functional reasons.
Case of the Week From 11/19/23
History: Finger mass.
What are the findings on today’s MRI? Circumscribed 4th digit mass abutting the middle and proximal phalanges, following the signal of fat.
What is the most likely diagnosis? Lipoma of the finger.
What features would require further workup? Soft tissues components, poor capsulation, signal different from fatty tissue, abnormal enhancement, physical examination features discordant with the MRI findings.
Case of the Week From 11/12/23
History: Wrist pain.
What are the findings on today’s MRI? Circumscribed T2 bright, T1 dark, lunate lesion with fine linear internal arc like lines. Heterogenous and isointense signal on gradient sequence, Small zone of transition.
What is the most likely diagnosis? Probably a lunate enchondroma.
What is the next step in diagnosis/management? Correlate with plain film. If nonaggressive appearance confirmed, no further workup is warranted.

History: Wrist pain.
What are the findings on today’s MRI? Thickening and abnormal fluid surrounding the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon.
What is the most likely diagnosis? Extensor carpet ulnaris tendinitis
What are the most common causes and treatment? Twisting or backward flexing of the wrist. (Common tennis and basketball injury). Treatment consists of rest, immobilization, and NSAIDS.
