Case of the Week From 12/27/20

History: Left hip pain.
What are the relevant findings? Focal edema at the fovea of the left femoral head.
What is the most the most likely diagnosis? Sprain/tear of the ligamentum teres of the hip (inserts on the fovea)

Case of the Week From 12/20/20

History: Abnormal swallowing sensation.
What are the relevant findings and diagnosis? Linear foreign body (fishbone) within the posterior prevertebral tissues of the hypopharynx obliquely extending to the with accompanying puncture of the mucosa and right prevertebral fascia. Accompanying collection adjacent to the right aryepiglottic cartilage with fluid and air (likely abscess). Reactive changes and inflammation of the adjacent right thyroid lobe and fascia.
How would you manage this patient? Call ENT consult.

Case of the Week From 12/13/20

History: Numbness and tingling in the arms.
What are the relevant findings and diagnosis? Cerebellar tonsils projecting below the foramen magnum. Accompanying mid cervical cord syrinx.
What is the typical treatment? Decompression of the cervicocranial junction, typically an occipital bone decompression.

Case of the Week From 12/6/20

History: Status post injury. Knee pain.
What are the relevant findings and diagnoses? Findings suggestive of a partial tear of the PCL and posterior horn undersurface medical meniscal tear.
Does this patient need surgical intervention? Partial tears of the PCL and peripheral tears of the medical meniscus can sometimes heal on their own. Depends on the clinical presentation/orthopedist examination/evaluation.
